NOTICE OF REFERENDUM WHITEWATER UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT APRIL 1, 2025
Referendum Election Details
At an election to be held in the Whitewater Unified School District on April 1, 2025, the following proposed Initial Resolution of the School Board will be submitted to a vote of the people:
INITIAL RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING GENERAL OBLIGATION BONDS IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $30,000,000
BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of the Whitewater Unified School District, Walworth, Jefferson and Rock Counties, Wisconsin that there shall be issued pursuant to Chapter 67 of the Wisconsin Statutes, general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $30,000,000 for the public purpose of paying the cost of a school building and facility improvement project consisting of: construction of additions and renovations at the High School, including for kitchen/cafeteria, career and technical education expansion and to update the auditorium and tennis courts; district-wide renovations, capital maintenance, building infrastructure, safety, security and site improvements; and acquisition of furnishings, fixtures and equipment.

The question will appear on the ballot as follows:
“Shall the Whitewater Unified School District, Walworth, Jefferson and Rock Counties, Wisconsin be authorized to issue pursuant to Chapter 67 of the Wisconsin Statutes, general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $30,000,000 for the public purpose of paying the cost of a school building and facility improvement project consisting of: construction of additions and renovations at the High School, including for kitchen/cafeteria, career and technical education expansion and to update the auditorium and tennis courts; district-wide renovations, capital maintenance, building infrastructure, safety, security and site improvements; and acquisition of furnishings, fixtures and equipment?”

The referendum election ballot will ask District electors to vote “yes” or “no” on the referendum election question as set forth above.

A “yes” vote on the question is a vote to approve the borrowing of $30,000,000 by the Whitewater Unified School District through the issuance of general obligation bonds for the purpose of paying the cost of a school building and facility improvement project consisting of: construction of additions and renovations at the High School, including for kitchen/cafeteria, career and technical education expansion and to update the auditorium and tennis courts; district-wide renovations, capital maintenance, building infrastructure, safety, security and site improvements; and acquisition of furnishings, fixtures and equipment.
A “no” vote on the question is a vote to deny the Whitewater Unified School District the authority to borrow $30,000,000 through the issuance of general obligation bonds for the purpose of paying the cost of a school building and facility improvement project consisting of: construction of additions and renovations at the High School, including for kitchen/cafeteria, career and technical education expansion and to update the auditorium and tennis courts; district-wide renovations, capital maintenance, building infrastructure, safety, security and site improvements; and acquisition of furnishings, fixtures and equipment.
In the event a majority of the electors voting on the question vote “yes”, the District will be authorized to undertake the school building and facility improvement program described in the question and borrow not in excess of $30,000,000 therefor; if a majority vote “no” on the question set forth above, the District will not be so authorized.
