Resolution to Adopt Increased Levy Limit

RESOLUTION OF TOWN BOARD PROPOSING TO EXCEED LEVY LIMIT VIA TOWN MEETING

TOWN OF WHITEWATER, Walworth County, Wisconsin

Resolution Number 10-9•2024 LL

Whereas, the State of Wisconsin has imposed levy limits on towns, villages, cities and county levies for 2024 and thereafter under Wis. Stat. 66.0602.

Wis. Stat. 66.0602 limits the allowable local levy for 2024 to a percentage increase Of no more than the greater Of (a) zero percent of the 2023 payable 2024 adjusted actual levy as calculated under the state’s Jew limit law or (b) a percentage equal to the percent change in equalized value due to net new construction less improvements removed, which for the Town of Whitewater is 0.00%.

the Town Board of the Town of Whitewater, Walworth County, believes that for the 2024 tax levy (to be collected in 2025) it is in the Town’s best interest to exceed the State levy limit as described above by a greater percentage 0.00%.

Whereas, the TOWN OF WHITEWATER’s 2024 (payable in 2025) adjusted actual tax levy is $479,573.00 and further whereas the state law would limit this year’s increase to 0.00% or a total allowable town tax levy of $478,660.00 ($479,573.00 less $912.67) for the 2024 personal property aid payment) after adjustments for 2024 (to be collected in 2025);

THEREFORE, the Town Board of the TOWN OF WHITEWATER, Walworth County does hereby resolve and order as follows:

The Town Board Supports an increase in the town tax levy for 2024 that will exceed the amount allowed by the State levy limit

The Town Board directs that the question of increasing the allowable town tax levy for 2024 (to be collected in 2025) by 31.337%, which would increase the town levy by $150,000, for a total tax levy (after adjustments) of $628,660 ($150,000 + $478,660.n, shall be placed on the agenda for the Elector’s Meeting to be held Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 6:30 PM at W8590 Willis Ray Road.
